SPECIAL COMMUNIQUÉ REJECTING THE THREAT OF USE OF
FORCE AGAINST THE ISLAMIC REPUBLIC OF IRAN
1.The Group of Friends in Defense of the Charter of the United Nations
unequivocally rejects the recent threats by the government of the United States of
America to use force against the Islamic Republic of Iran, a fellow member of our
grouping, and expresses its serious concerns that such reprehensible threats and
rhetoric have the potential to undermine international peace and security and the
rule of law at the international level, while manifestly running counter to the
purposes and principles enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations.
2.The Member States of the Group of Friends in Defense of the Charter of the United
Nations highlight that the provocative threats to use force against the Islamic
Republic of Iran constitute gross violations of the fundamental principles of
international law, including sovereign equality of States, as well as the prohibition
of the threat or use of force stipulated in Article 2 (4) of the Charter of the United
Nations.
3.The Group of Friends in Defense of the Charter of the United Nations emphasizes
the paramount importance of adherence to and compliance in good faith with the
Charter of the United Nations, both in its letter and spirit, for the maintenance of
international peace and security. In this respect, it further stresses that such threats
to use force, which also contravene the duty to resolve divergences through
peaceful means, should be ceased forthwith and refrained from.
4.The Member States of the Group of Friends in Defense of the Charter of the United
Nations stand in solidarity with the people and government of the Islamic Republic
of Iran.
